What is a Divine Appointment?
It is a time when the Lord allows you to meet someone who you can help – perhaps by sharing the Lord, something He’s done for you – or perhaps just listen and pray for someone. You will know it is from the Lord because:
- The person will say, “How did you know?” or something similar.
- You can’t remember saying that –or you feel lead by the Lord to pray for the person.
- The person expresses an improvement in their situation – perhaps you’ve helped them by praying, or shared a situation with them that the Lord is urging you to share and it is just what they needed to here. Or, perhaps you tell them about the Lord and lead them to a prayer of acceptance of the Lord Jesus as Savior!
Have you experienced one?
- Someone has helped you through a situation and you feel so blessed by it.
- Someone responds to a need without you even sharing you had this need.
- A person calls who you meant to call – possibly lead by the Lord because the Lord has put you on this person’s heart… and that person helps you in some way.
How can you hear the Lord to intercede for someone else?
The entire theme of these podcasts is listening to the Lord – hence the name of this podcast – AFMWG … are you spending time daily in prayer? Are you growing in your walk with the Lord each day? I heard a wonderful sermon where the pastor taught if you are not moving ahead you are moving behind!
Keep praying and asking the Lord to use you – to use you to intercede for others in prayer, to use you in ministry to others, however, you feel prompted to be used by Him. If you have someone you can pray with for discernment if it is something big – like street ministry (share Sue Ellen’s invitation to me…) etc. do pray with a pastor or friend.
Keep an open mind – hearing the Lord takes practice if we are so busy talking it is hard sometimes to discern HIS voice over our own.
Know by the fruit if you mess up – if you reach out and someone is not open to hearing anything or you don’t feel like you are helping that was from YOU and not the Lord. It happens – just learn from this experience but don’t shut the door! It is better to be a fool for the Lord than to just be a fool!
Sometimes a person may not be ready to hear and you are only planting seeds – just quietly pray first before calling or approaching a person and the best advice I can give you is to say nothing unless you are prompted by the Lord to speak! Sometimes the best advice is no advice and just a listening ear… (share Gina’s listening ear to me!).
- You keep thinking about this person – and you pray for them, but the Lord keeps bringing this person to mind. This may mean you need to reach out to them – check in and say, “hi!”
- If you do reach out – listen!
- Pray as the person talks – ask the Lord to give you the words HE wants you to say
Share the story about “Mary” – waitress – led her to the Lord.
Heavenly Father, I ask you to let me know when I should be your hands, your feet and your voice to someone in need. Father, use me to do your will – use me to help others – use me to be an intercessor in prayer by calling someone to mind who needs prayers. Lord help me to learn to discern your small still voice so I can know it is from you and not my own thoughts. Lord I pray for all who a, e listening today, that you send your Holy Spirit with every good gift – renew the gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives, stir up the Spirit to minister to others, and I pray this in the precious Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
