Faith Crisis

faith crisisFaith Crisis  –Episode 48

Why is there such a faith crisis these days? Have all of the believers left or have they decided that fighting for their faith and their beliefs is just too hard? In this podcast, we explore the importance of handing down our faith to our children and those we mentor as well as the crisis that plagues the church today.

I’m astounded when I hear story after story from teary parents whose children have left the faith of their youth behind. These children know right from wrong, they understand what it means to be brought up with the truth and yet, as young adults they decide that they would rather do it their way. Their way includes calling into question all that things they previously believed.

Early on in my parenting journey, I heard a wise pastor say, “It is important that the faith – your faith parents that you pass on to your children becomes their faith at some point.”

Is our faith just that. Ours? Have we failed to pass down the truth of Christ to our kids or have they been weakened by the “ways of the world” and decided that what we said, what we preached, what we shared is just not so.

Either God is real or He is not. There is no in-between.

I think there is a disconnect. Many church teachings have become watered down and a permissive attitude prevails. God is loving. God is kind. God is forgiving.

Yes. Yes and Yes. God is all of these things. But, God is also just judge.

Friends, I’ve seen miracles. I have been blessed to witness people being healed. It is not something I asked for or even desired. It is something the Lord allowed in my life. I have asked the Lord for years to use me to evangelize, but I didn’t become a theologian or scholar. This desire, I believe was placed in me through my years of praying, witnessing and studying God’s word.

Anyone who spends time with God … and I don’t just mean in church… will realize He is there for us. How do we know that God’s word is real? That Jesus was born, lived, died and resurrected from the dead? How do we know that there is really sin and that God came to give us the keys to His kingdom? How do we know that God is the same yesterday, today and in the future?

The only way to know is for God to reveal this to us – in a personal way.

Luke 16:20-31 New American Standard Bible

Sadly, no matter what you tell your children, your friends, your acquaintances if they are not open to God’s message they won’t hear it.

How do you know if someone is having a faith crisis?

  1. They start questioning everything.
  2. They say, “There must be more to life than this.”
  3. You begin to question life after death. The end becomes real.
  4. Black and white becomes grey and yellow – what was clear previously no longer seems clear.

A faith crisis can be overcome.

  1. You have to realize you have a crisis.
  2. You have to be willing to take the time in prayer and study.
  3. You have to look at the options.

John 6:67-70 Peter’s Confession of Faith

So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”  Jesus answered them, “Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?”

Peter realized that God was the answer – the truth and that all that is good comes from Him, including eternal life. However one of the 12 – Judas who as Jesus said, he chose himself would reject Him.

God has given us free choice. We have the ability to decide for or against Him. There is no in-between – however we are on a journey.

I pray that this journey is one that you are prepared for and that you can bring as many people as you can alongside you to the heavenly reward that has been promised for those who love and serve the Lord.

Let us pray.

Dear Lord, there are many who have hearts that are full of sorrow, from loss or from hurt. I pray that you fill their hearts overflowing with you love and your goodness. That you help them to seek you, you are the truth, the way and the life, Lord. Please open the eyes and the hearts of those who are in a state of sin and do not realize it, let them be anointed with the ability to see – please send yoru Holy Spirit to open their eye to the truth and I ask through our prayers and intercession that you not only hear our prayers but you help us in ways that we can minister to others. I pray a blessing on those listening today that you give them an abundance of grace to combat the wicked one and to do battle for you. I pray this in Jesus, precious Name. Amen.
