On this first episode of the Understanding Catholicism Series, James Seghers, our presenter, will focus on ‘how God speaks to us,’ how he speaks to us through divine revelation, through sacred tradition, and sacred scriptures. It will explain how divine revelation comes to us in two forms. In a number of Saint Paul’s written books of the New Testament, he describes how sacred tradition was faithfully handed down and enlightened by the Holy Spirit of Truth so that they were faithfully preserved and spread abroad by preaching. Our sacred traditions and Church doctrine have been passed down through the generations but will not necessarily be found in Sacred Scripture. The sacred Scripture described beautifully as God’s love letters, was divided into the Old and New Testaments. The Latin meaning of the Testament will be defined, and the important significance of its overall theme throughout the entire bible.

The New Testament lies hidden in the old, and the Old Testament is unveiled in the new. The apostles were faithful to the Commission they received from Jesus, preached the gospel to all nations, that message, preaching the gospel of all nations is the same for us today as it was so many hundreds of years ago. It will explain how many books make up the Old and New Testaments and what happened in the period of Martin Luther King during the protestant reformation that caused them to remove seven books from the Old Testament. Jimmy Seghers will give us the name of every book of the Old and New Testament and the writer of each book. He will also share the central theme of each book. We can rely on the richness of Church teaching to better understand how God has spoken to his children throughout the ages and how he continues to speak to us today.

This is the first episode in the (20 Episode Series) of Understanding Catholicism.
