15th Sunday of Ordinary Time-C   July 10, 2022 –Bread of Life Bible Study

The question Jesus puts to the lawyer, “Who do you think was neighbor to the man?” Is the same question that is being asked of you and me. God’s love is so great that anyone who is in need is eligible for his help.

“There is a famine today that is raging across this great land of ours. There is a deep hunger and thirst for the healing Word of God … With humility, boldness, and energy, we must personally hear the Word, pray the Word, study the Word, proclaim the Word, and live the Word of the Lord Jesus Christ.” (from Introduction for The Bread of Life Bible Study)

Today’s podcast is based on the Bread of Life Catholic Bible Study and presented by the coauthor, Marie Finn. Please visit the website: www.StDismasGuild.org for more information and for supplemental materials.

The disciples were not trained in any special categories, nor did they have any unique qualifications. What made them different was their awareness of Jesus’ power and their vision to reach all the people through him. There is no unemployment in Christian service. The Lord Jesus has work for everyone.

13th Sunday of Ordinary Time-C : Today's gospel gives us an example concerning the vocation to follow Christ. Vocation entails a "totality."13th Sunday of Ordinary Time-C   June 26, 2022 –Bread of Life Bible Study

Today’s gospel gives us a third example concerning the vocation to follow Christ. Vocation entails a “totality.” By this I mean that once we set out to follow Christ we do so wholeheartedly,  no half-way measures. We cannot chase after other pursuits; we should not be distracted so as other pursuits gradually become more and more important at the expense of the vocation to follow Christ.

Let today be the day you fall on your knees and invite Jesus Christ to come into your heart and become the Lord of your life. All through the ages, no matter what type of situation may have been present, almost everyone would agree that if you are critical, rather than compassionate, you will also receive criticism. 8th Sunday of Ordinary Time-C Bread of Life Bible Study

All through the ages, no matter what type of situation may have been present, almost everyone would agree that if you are critical, rather than compassionate, you will also receive criticism. If you treat others generously, gracefully, and compassionately, these qualities will come  back to you in full measure. Jesus does not mean we should ignore wrongdoing, but we are not to become critical of others that we begin to become one of God’s frozen people instead of one of his chosen people

Jesus makes known, very strongly in this reading, that love is a decision and not some sentimental sloppy emotion. He was not talking about feelings, but about the use of our will.  We make a choice to love someone with our mind. We also make a choice to forgive someone with our mind.

John the Baptist broke upon the people like a giant clap of thunder.  He did not tickle the people’s ears. He was not cute or an entertainer. His message was not good news, it was news of terror. John’s message took root in unexpected places, among the poor, the criminals, and the soldiers. They were painfully aware of their needs.

11.29.2021 2nd Sunday of Advent -C Bread of Life Bible StudyAs we prepare for Christmas and the 2nd coming of Christ we are told to repent and make way for the Lord. Repentance does not mean “I am sorry,” it means “Change”. And that means changing direction by looking away from sin and turning to our loving, forgiving God, and doing things His way not our way.

Even today we often judge by our culture’s standards, – power, beauty, wealth, education – as in John’s time, and miss the really special people through whom God works. Greatness is not measured by what we have, but by what we do for God. We can be like John the Baptist and give ourselves entirely to God so his power can work through us.

“There is a famine today that is raging across this great land of ours. What quality of the child makes us great in the kingdom of God? Matthew 18:4 says, “Whoever makes himself lowly, becoming like this child, is of greatest importance in the heavenly reign.” Jesus knew very well what the disciples were discussing on the road. His message called for complete denial of one’s own self-importance.
