Magnificat® Ministry Presents Magnificat® Proclaims, Episode 17, Elyse O’Kane – Heavenly Melodies through Praise & Worship

Magnificat® Ministry presents Magnificat® Proclaims. In this episode, Elyse O’Kane, a former speech therapist and reading tutor, explains her faith journey. Raised a practicing church-going Catholic, during her college years, Elyse began questioning her faith and attending Mass was no longer a priority, only to return when she was inspired and tended to by a group of ministering women who helped her through a difficult pregnancy and then experienced a miracle.

Elyse has witnessed many miracles in her life.  One day, in 1991, a melody inspired by Mother Mary’s Magnificat came to her spontaneously after Mass, and it has since been used in many Magnificat Chapters and churches across the United States. Elyse has continued to compose and write music, including two CDs, “With all my Heart” and “A Time to Heal.” In addition to writing music, she is involved in the ministry of intercessory prayer and healing and enjoys speaking to groups about her faith journey. Elyse is married to her husband, John O’Kane, and they have three grown sons and daughters-in-law, and seven grandchildren.

Opening Prayer

The episode begins with the Flame of Love Unity Prayer, revealed to Hungarian mystic Elizabeth Kindelmann:

“My adorable Jesus, may our feet journey together…
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father. Amen.
O Blessed Lady, spread the effect of the flame of love over all of humanity. Amen.”

  • Describes herself as a “missionary disciple”, inspired by Pope Francis

What You’ll Hear in This Episode

The Power of Baptism

Bernadette shares how:

  • She was born premature and critically ill.

  • Doctors believed she would not survive.

  • Her parents rushed her to baptism.

  • She received both Baptism and Anointing of the Sick.

  • Her twin brother passed away — but she lived.

For Bernadette, baptism was not symbolic — it was life-giving.

She reflects on:

  • The grace of baptism

  • The importance of not delaying the sacrament

  • The beginning of sacramental life (Baptism → Confirmation → Eucharist)

Leaving the Church — and What Was Missing

As a young adult, Bernadette:

  • Was drawn to Pentecostal communities

  • Experienced vibrant worship and strong teaching

  • Spent nearly 10 years away from the Catholic Church

Yet something was missing.

She describes:

  • A deep spiritual hunger

  • Feeling spiritually malnourished

  • St. Augustine’s words: “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

She compares leaving the fullness of the Church to:

Eating candy instead of a full, nourishing meal.

A Dramatic Reconversion

At a Catholic youth retreat, Bernadette:

  • Went reluctantly (and ready to argue!)

  • Challenged God on three things:

    • The Holy Spirit in the Catholic Church

    • The Real Presence in the Eucharist

    • The power of the Rosary

During the retreat:

  • She witnessed charismatic prayer and healing

  • Experienced Eucharistic Adoration profoundly

  • Encountered the power of the Rosary in a personal way

In humility, she surrendered.

That retreat marked the beginning of her return to the fullness of sacramental life.

 “The Full Plate” of Catholicism

Bernadette beautifully describes Catholicism as:

  • A full plate of spiritual nourishment

  • Organic, rich, complete food

  • Sacraments as essential nutrients

  • The Eucharist as central

She emphasizes:

  • Reconciliation

  • Confirmation

  • Eucharistic life

  • Marian devotion

Missionary Discipleship

Inspired by Pope Francis, Bernadette lives her baptismal call as a missionary disciple.

For over 30 years, she has:

  • Led women’s ministries

  • Served in Magnificat

  • Encouraged reconversion and deeper faith

  • Helped others encounter Christ

She credits:

  • Her mother’s persistent prayer

  • The intercession of Our Lady

  • Ongoing sacramental grace

Encouragement for Listeners

Bernadette offers hope:

  • Don’t stop praying for loved ones who have left the Church.

  • God creates opportunities for encounter.

  • Humility opens the door to grace.

  • No one is beyond God’s reach.

 Closing Prayer

Bernadette closes with a beautiful prayer for those who have grown distant from the faith, asking:

  • Jesus the Good Shepherd to seek the wandering

  • The Holy Spirit to remove obstacles

  • Mary, Mother of the Church, to intercede

  • A return to the Eucharist and Reconciliation

“May they know they are never forgotten, never unloved, and always welcome in your Church.”

Maria VadiaMagnificat® Ministry Presents Magnificat® Proclaims, Episode 4, Maria Vadia

Magnificat® Ministry Presents Magnificat® Proclaims. In this episode, Maria Vadia shares how she found the Lord and the purpose for her life.

When Maria Vadia was ten years old, her family visited the United States but never returned home to their native Cuba. Maria enjoyed wealth, status, and a luxurious lifestyle living in the US. Later, she married and had four children, enjoying all the luxuries money could buy. She wanted for nothing, yet she felt empty. While her family was Catholic, they were Catholic in name only. Maria never went to church, prayed, or had a relationship with the Lord. However, her sister believed and prayed for Maria for seven years. Her sister’s prayers worked for after attending a charismatic service, Maria’s fantastic transformation began.  Maria consecrated her life to the Lord and to proclaim the good news. She became an avid Bible reader and gave up her “pagan” lifestyle, which she knows would have been her sure ticket to hell. As sometimes happens when God touches our souls, our lives change, and so does Maria’s. Her marriage ended, and she faced other challenges. However, the Lord remained steadfast and was a faithful friend.

Maria, an author of eleven books, is a sought-after international speaker, having visited more than 35 countries. Through her transformative preachings of The Word, she has witnessed many miracles, signs, and wonders. Maria is a founding coordinator of the Miami, Florida, Chapter of Magnificat and a Magnificat’s International team member. In 2002, she founded The Glory of God Foundation (www.gloryofgodfoundation.org) to assist the Pigmy people in Africa. The global organization’s mission is to make Jesus known and loved by preaching the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit.
