Christian Music Praising God – Episode 53
Christian music praising God can bring us so much comfort and peace. But, What is it about Christian music and worship that go hand in hand? Music raises us up out of our grief, or melancholy and allows us to enjoy a closer relationship with God. In this podcast, we discuss how music can help us in our daily struggles and bring joy into our hearts.

Sometimes I feel that I am stating the obvious, I don’t think any of you will find it surprising that music can be uplifting or put you in a better mood, or take you out of depressing thoughts, however, it is always a good reminder to myself and to you that we should surround out thoughts with those that praise the Lord.
Praising God in words and in song is only a benefit to ourselves. There is nothing we can do to make God any greater than He already is – our God is amazing and strong and mighty and powerful. Our God is everlasting and never changing. When we pray or we worship God in song we are the ones who benefit and this is a wonderful thing!
The Scriptures are filled with song and praising using music. King David is the one who comes to mind and is the most associated with song, singing that was pleasing to God.
2 Chronicles 7:6
The priests stood at their posts, and the Levites also, with the instruments of music to the Lord, which King David had made for giving praise to the Lord—“for His lovingkindness is everlasting”—whenever he gave praise by their means, while the priests on the other side blew trumpets; and all Israel was standing.
So many people are struggling daily and music has a way of lightening our spirits. I love to listen to music when I’m driving and I have a playlist on my phone of a mix of uplifting and worship music. Musical tastes vary which is why I won’t share my playlist with you in particular but there are several songs that make me smile and sing along, loudly! I can’t imagine what people think especially if I am parked at a red light singing about God’s goodness forever, or The River by Jordan Feliz – “I know a place where we can go to lay the troubles down eating your soul, I know a place where mercy flows – take the stains make you whiter than snow…”
These lyrics speak to me and when I am down there is no way I can stay down. I have hope that is in Christ that no matter what today brings he is walking alongside me.
There are so many ways to incorporate music into your day, and it depends on your preference of course, but I look for music that is:
- Uplifting
- Heartfelt
- Speaks to my situation
- Praises God’s Name – highest prayer
- All-encompassing – getting lost in the hope that is available to all of us
Remember along with prayer and reading the Bible music can add a wonderful element of encouragement to us in our daily lives.
Songs that are very close to the Scriptures can help us

Scripture songs with allow us to praise God using the words from the Holy Bible are so encouraging and help us to not only learn the Bible verses but make them part of our hearts. There is hope and victory in Jesus and He answers us sometimes through song, to remind us constantly that His word is true and fair! He has redeemed us by his death and resurrection and we can rejoice by singing praises to Him in thanksgiving which allows us to put our cares aside as we shout to the Lord.
Remember, God is there He is with us and we can pray and rejoice and sometimes in song! Don’t forget to listen to music that lifts us up to the Lord.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the opportunity to praise you in thought, word, prayer and deed – and also in praise in music. Thank you for giving us all the resources to combat the enemy of depression and keep our minds on you, Oh, Lord. In you, we give you the praise and the honor that you deserve. In praising you allow it to dispel the darkness that plagues us the worry and give us the compassion we need as we struggle. Thank you Lord for giving us the help we need just when we need it, and I pray for all of the intentions of those listening today – and I thank you for answered prayer. Amen
