Testimony of Fr. William Moorby
Fr. William Moorby is from the area of Rochester, NY. Fr. Moorby was raised in a strong Catholic home with fond memories of his early sacraments. He shares in his story how he became involved in the Charismatic Renewal and how it led him to the priesthood. His parents were involved in the Charismatic Renewal and encouraged him when he was in college to attend a prayer group.
After many attempts, he was able to find one. Through his connection with a roommate in college and his Spiritual Director, he was encouraged to consider the vocation of priesthood. Fr. Moorby attended St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY. Father Moorby was ordained in 1982. He began his stay in Tioga in 1993 as pastor of St. John the Evangelist, Newark Valley, and St. Francis of Assisi, Catatonk. Four years later, he was named administrator of St. Patrick, Owego, and a year after that, he became pastor of all three churches. In 2003, he doubled his pastorate by adding on St. James, Waverly; St. Margaret Mary, Apalachin; and St. Pius X, Van Etten in the newly formed Blessed Trinity/St. Patrick parishes.

My name is Sir Robert Eric Kern son of Robert and Evonne NY formerly of St. Francis of Assisi Catatonk NY Rochester Diocese. My father (Robert) Bob was diagnosed with Pancreatic stage 4 cancer in March and has received chemo therapy we pray will reduce his pain and suffering and give his family, Evonne, Michelle, Jeremy, and Paul a bit more time together. Im currently living in San Diego County CA in a small town called Jamul, CA. My father finishes his chemo therapy in 4 weeks assuming his white blood cell count stays within the threshold of 1000- units. My mother Evonne is caring for him at this final stage of his life. Robert was a 200 lbs man who is down to 148lbs and is in terrible pain no matter how much morphine he is given. After 17 yrs writing cancer research grants for both the Burnham Institute, Ludwig Institute San Diego, CA and UCSD, San Diego CA,. I more than my mother and sibling understand that my dad is terminal and I honesty do not see him holding on much longer as he’s tired., and his therapy is been a bit ruff at this stage of the game.
After my parents expressed to me that they felt lost now that St Francis is closed in Catatonk. St Catherines and St Patricks never made them feel welcomed and part of the parishes as St. Francis was part of their identity and their devotion and loyalty stayed with St Francis’s . As my father prepares his funeral he chose not to have a church memorial service as he doesn’t feel like he is connected to any parish that is within driving distance. I realize this is a huge request as I understand the demands on your time and efforts. Is there any possible chance if I could get a number to contact you for you to come to his funeral and say a prayer at the grave side service? It would bring my mother great comfort for you to say a prayer at this time of the planned event. I realize it’s a drive and I would be happy to provide coverage of a hotel night stay as I ‘ want you to be driving so far later in the day. Father Bill both my parents felt love and friendship with you during there time as members of St Francis Parish. I lost in the last two years Grandma Julia Kern. My husbands mother Gloria, , my son Matthew and his wife and children (auto accident while driving in Germany to a family long ski weekend. Then my moms mother Peggy, my very close cousin Bob, and sooner than I want my dad. …
