Thoughts from St. Hildegard

“But the Father is revealed through the Son, the Son through the beginning of created things, and the Holy Spirit through the incarnate Son. How is this? It is the Father who before time engendered the Son; it is the Son through whom all things were created by the Father at the beginning of creation; and it is the Holy Spirit who appeared in the form of a dove at the baptism of the Son of God towards the end of all time.”

A Mystery, but we can still think about it

We look at the Trinity through the lens of our faith. Do we fully understand it? Most likely not, but through the eyes of faith, we can embrace it and grow in our understanding as we grow in our faith.

In John 16: 12-15, we see the line of God the Father to the Son to the Holy Spirit.

Pray the Glory Be this week to ask for the intercession of the Trinity:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

  1. It always amazes me when people say the Holy Spirit came in the form of a dove. The Greek translation says the “Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus like a dove”. In other words. Just as a bird or doves descends to the ground, the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus following His historic Baptism. I believe God allowed the crowd to witness the invisible Holy Spirit descend upon Jesus. It was not a dove that descended upon Jesus, but the Holy Spirit.

I undersatnd your point and appreciate it. I like to keep in mind that our understanding of scripture grows as scholars learn more, give better translations and so forth.
