Meet Christy Wilkens

She is a wife and mother of six, is a speaker and writer who lives outside Austin, TX. She blogs at about disability, faith, doubt, suffering, community, and good reads. Her first book, Awakening at Lourdes: How an Unanswered Prayer Healed Our Family and Restored Our Faith, a memoir about a pilgrimage with her husband and son, was just published by Ave Maria Press. She’s a Dame of Magistral Grace in the Order of Malta and just started pursuing a second career in nursing.

Control for Vulnerability

Christy spent hours in prayer, trying to “wrestle a healing from God” for her son Oscar. What mother wouldn’t do the same when medical doctors have no answers to help your son. Going to the baths at Lourdes was a gift and place of healing not only for Oscar but for Christy and Todd and the whole family. It was in the surrender that, that listening to God’s whispers, that she was able to see the small yet powerful changes in Oscar. And, then, she was able to “trade control for vulnerability” (pg 174) and receive what God was offering.

A full life

6 children, a husband and going to nursing school full time is more than a full life. However, those facts don’t capture all of life; the death of parents, illness, school and the usual happenings that go on with children, special needs or not. It is a full life, and one that Christy lives each day and when the days or moments are difficult and answers not forthcoming, she prays these words, “Whatever you want, Jesus, ” similar to Blessed Chiara Badano.

Where does this leave us?

As I see Christy on social media, she inspires me. She is quick to point out, that it is God who works through her. It is all for his glory.

Here’s her website!

This week, when life seems overly full, pray this prayer: “Whatever you want, Jesus.”

The interview was encouraging and inspiring. I would love to visit Lourdes but I don’t think I’ll ever get there. I was reminded that pilgrimages take place in our lives right where we are. We just have to be open to them. Our trust in God allows Him to reveal Himself to us. May I develop my ability to listen to God and to ask the question … “Whatever you want, Jesus,
Thank you for introducing me to Christy Wilkins, Lourdes Awakening At Lourdes.
