Practical Council in the Holy Spirit

Fr. John Horn, in the foreword of our book, WRAP Yourself in Scripture, says,  “WRAP provides a way of receiving practical counsel in the Holy Spirit and a new, intimate relationship with Jesus and the Father. This method of prayer will awaken your inner desire to become more and more ‘filled with all the fullness of God’” (Ephesians 3: 19). Today, we will cover these tips for hearing God every day, pausing, and being ‘filled with all the fullness of God.”

How Much Time Does WRAP Take?

  • You can follow this method for as little as 10 minutes or much longer.
  • For example, you could take your Bible and journal with you to WRAP in Adoration.

Where should I WRAP?

  • Try to pause for a few minutes every day to practice WRAP.
  • To pause means to intentionally slow down and step away from the chaos of daily life.
  • Spiritually, it’s more than just taking a break; it means you take time to be with God in prayer-a time free of distractions, to pray and connect to His peaceful presence.
  • Go to a place where you can be alone to pray and listen for God’s voice; you may simply shut the door.

What Supplies Do I need for WRAP?

  • You will need an empty notebook to use as your journal, a pen or pencil and of course, your Bible.
  • Keep a zippered notebook or tote bag that holds these supplies so you will have them handy

How do I Select Verses for WRAP?

  • Choose a section from a daily or Sunday Mass reading.
  • You could choose a Psalm.
  • Choose a passage that’s about 5 to 10 verses.

How do I Begin?

  • Close your eyes and picture in your mind that the Lord is sitting with you, and you can sense his loving, sustaining presence.
  • Offer a simple prayer of thanksgiving and invite the Holy Spirit to guide and speak to you.

Personal Application

  • Grab a pen and a small, inexpensive notebook and call it your WRAP Journal, plus your Bible.
  • Turn to Psalm 27  in your Bible and WRAP with it.

A Meditation for Christmas

Almost Christmas!

There’s no need for many words. So I offer yo this mediation based on Luke 1. Read it and then give a listen in a quiet, prayerful place. And surprise, it’s not me, it my husband you’ll hear.

A voice for radio

A little story – a few years ago my husband and I were in Italy visiting my family. I was the translator between them and John. One night, my cousin’s husband says, after hearing John talk to me, “he has a voice for radio.” I start cracking up, thinking of the phrase,  you have a face for radio. At any rate, I translate back and forth and we settle the joke and the compliment and move on. But I think about it sometimes, when I hear my husband proclaim the Gospel at Mass. He does so well; sometimes I forget it’s him.

Happy Birthday!

So yes, I celebrate another year this week. Quite close to Christmas. If you join my newsletter list, which is so much more, as you will get access to the Live Not Lukewarm Community and all my courses, I will enter you into a drawing to win a prize.

Merry Christmas!

I hope you have a Merry and Blessed Christmas!

Self-care for the Working Woman

Self-care for working womenEpisode 15–Self-care for the Working Woman

The issue of self-care for the working woman is an important topic for today’s woman.  With our many responsibilities and duties, self-care can sometimes go by the wayside.

As a mom who worked part-time, I learned early on that my life was no longer your own, and I know that many of you can relate to this. When the kids were little, it was difficult to find time to do anything for myself without them being underfoot. Sometimes that even included finding time to go to the bathroom.

Even as they got older, the driving force of most days still centered around their needs and activities. Add to all of this, the responsibility of trying to earn enough money to live, and honoring commitments to my church and community, sometimes it felt that I barely had time to think.

Because I was making all of these sacrifices, I expected affirmation and gratitude from my family and others, but many times my work went unnoticed and unappreciated. This left me feeling very disappointed, angry, and depressed which further complicated things.

I was in a downward spiral, and I realized that I had to make some changes. I started giving myself permission to nourish my own body and soul. At first, it was a struggle for me, but now that my children have grown up and three of them have left home, it’s a little easier and I’m finally learning how to take good care of me.

The funny thing is that the more I talk about this experience with others, the more I discovered that many women are dealing with the same struggles. We’ve given so much of ourselves and we’re burnt out. We need to learn or relearn self-care.

Now, let me clarify what I mean when I say ‘self-care’, ladies. Self-care is more than just going to the nail salon to get a manicure or a pedicure. It’s more than getting your hair done or going away for a weekend with the girls. All of those things are nice to do, but it’s not enough. Real self-care is much deeper than those things. It requires that we address our spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.

So I’ve decided to dedicate today’s podcast to the subject of nourishing our bodies and souls and talk about eight ways, we as women, can make that happen, in the new year.
